Joseph A. Bollhofer has been licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey since 1985. Mr. Bollhofer received his undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University and his law degree from Fordham University School of Law. While at Fordham he was the Managing Editor of the Fordham Urban Law Journal, earning a full scholarship in his senior year. He is listed in Who's Who Among American Law School Students. Mr. Bollhofer has been in private practice serving area residents and businesses since his admission to the bar. He established his own law firm in St. James, New York in 1989.  

Elder Law and Estate and Business Planning, including asset transfer and medicaid applications, are primary areas of Mr. Bollhofer's law practice. Mr. Bollhofer also maintains an active real estate practice, representing purchasers, sellers and lenders, and is president of Downstate Title Agency, Inc. His legal advice regarding estate and medicaid planning, elder law and real estate matters has appeared several times in Newsday and other area publications, including New York State Bar Association and Suffolk Country Bar Association periodicals. His practice also includes representation of injured persons in personal injury actions. 

Mr. Bollhofer periodically gives lectures in these areas of law to community, professional and continuing education groups. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and of the Elder Law, Trusts and Estates, Real Property and Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Sections of the New York State Bar Association and the Elder Law and Estate Planning and Surrogate's Court Committees of the Suffolk County Bar Association. He is also co-chair of the SCBA's Real Property Committee. 

An active participant in community affairs, Mr. Bollhofer  is the chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals of the Village of Head of the Harbor. He is also past president of the Smithtown Alumni Association, the Smithtown Rotary Club, the Smithtown Township Arts Council and the St. James Chamber of Commerce. He has been a resident of Smithtown, St. James and Head of the Harbor for almost all of his life. 


Catherine is an ABA certified Paralegal and Notary Public with many years of experience in several areas of law including Social Security Disability, Medicare and Medicaid eligibility as well as Real Estate.

Prior to joining the firm, Catherine had more than 10 years’ experience advocating for the people of Suffolk County as a special needs case manager. Serving her community, she gained extensive knowledge in geriatric care management, elder care advocacy, guardianships and estate planning.

Catherine was drawn back to the legal field when she assisted her own family, acting as care manager and advocate for her own father, and finally Administrator of his Estate. That kind of personal knowledge, combined with her years of advocacy experience has given her the skills to sensitively and compassionately speak with clients, family and other professionals alike.

She has lived on Long Island all her life and is proud to serve the community she so loves.

Catherine holds both a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Counseling as well as her Paralegal Certification from Long Island University. She lives in Bayport with her husband and two children.
